Verbal Overview

Verbs are the most complicated part of speech for beginning and intermediate students. I’ve put together a few cheat sheets which you can find here. You can also study the 100 most common verbs (there are lots of slightly different lists but I like SpanishDict‘s the most!)

If you’re not sure what kind of verb you need, here are examples in English and Spanish so you can figure it out.

Present: I watch a lot of movies. (Veo muchas películas.)

Past (Pretérito): I met Robin Williams once. (Conocí a Robin Williams una vez.)

Past (Imperfect): I was very shy when I was a child. (De niña, era muy tímida.)

Condicional (Conditional): I would like to go with you. (Me gustaría mucho acompañarte.)

Futuro (Future): I will go to México next year. (En el año que viene, iré a México.)

Present Subjunctive: I hope that Justin Bieber stops singing in Spanish. (Espero que Justin Bieber pare de cantar en español.)

Past Subjunctive: I hoped that you cooked dinner. (Esperaba que cocinaras la cena.)
